Zack Thompson - Tech Jacket ([personal profile] xenomania) wrote2017-12-26 07:45 pm

Info;

Name: Zack Thompson, alias Tech Jacket
Origin: The Image comics series Tech Jacket.
Age: 16 at series start, 21 at series end. I swap to whatever is most appropriate for a given thread.

Personality:
• Friendly
• Determined
• Impulsive
• Open-Minded
• Direct
• Fun-loving

Zack is ridiculously tolerant and accepting of the odd- regardless of how weird or dangerous the situation, person or place his reaction will usually be 'cool' or simple acceptance. He took being made a cyborg and asked to save a world under siege remarkably well. Oddly it's the ordinary things he tends to stumble on- his habit of suddenly blurting out what's on his mind can make social interaction difficult sometimes. All the same, he does his best to enjoy life in all its aspects- he finds great delight in growing a beard. He's very chatty and this, combined with his accepting nature, often means he treats deadly combat like a conversation. The impulsive way he acts does sometimes lead to him making screw-ups socially, but he does apologise and do his best to make up for his mistakes.

He's shockingly good at and enjoys violence. He's not aggressive as such, but he admits to having fun beating up jerks. He doesn't seem to have a problem with killing in life or death situations, but he's not likely to do it if unnecessary.

History:

A typical teen with a tendency to be late and hard luck with girls, Zack's father ran a hardware store that was kept afloat by a loan from some very shady people. Witnessing having his father's finger broken by said loan sharks, combined with his more normal worries, eventually lead to Zack wandering into the woods to ponder his problems.

Which happened to be the crash site of a Geldarian space ship that had been shot down by their mortal enemy the Kresh. The dying pilot did the forbidden to save Zack's life- he transferred his Tech Jacket to Zack. The Geldarians had frail bodies and used Tech Jackets, self-evolving support suits, to make their lives easier. The Tech Jacket's power boost was formed on the base strength of the host- immediately making him incredibly powerful because humans are significantly stronger than Geldarians.

Scaring off the thugs of his father's loan sharks with his newfound power, he and his dad enjoyed testing out the limits of the jacket- but he was abducted by Geldarians that assumed he had somehow killed their warrior and stolen his jacket. During transport to Geldaria, they were attacked by the Kresh. He protected them and was taken to their planet, where they trained him to use his newfound powers to win their war and save them. He did so and in the process sparked a relationship with the alien princess, Lin.

After single handily winning the war, Zack was returned home- only to discover his parents had disappeared. He first confronted the head of the loan sharks who informed him they had run from him but the whole thing was dropped in the face of Zack's overpowering tech. He tracked his family down, now living at his grandfather's summer home. Just as he turned up, so did the last of the Kresh. He finished them off, just in time to have a squad of Geldarians arrive. Their ship was destroyed, meaning the sleepy town was briefly home to an intergalactic imperial family. During this time he officially became Lin's boyfriend.

For several years he was Earth's self-styled 'galactic guardian', the planet's first line of defence and he made his living as a bounty hunter in the process.

During the Invincible War, in which Earth was attacked by a large number of interdimensional alternates of Mark Grayson (one of Earth's most powerful superhumans, Invincible) Zack fought and killed two such alternates but was left hospitalised for his efforts. After recovering, he went on a world tour with Lin- in a moment of teenage awkwardness, some strain was put on their relationship when they discovered they were biologically incompatible sexually.

Diving into a dangerous situation to take his mind off it he fought Null, an incredibly powerful intergalactic mercenary, he was almost killed even with the assistance of Lin but successfully teleported Null to the sun. Zack was once again hospitalised. Once recovered, he and Lin amicably agreed to a polyamorous relationship- they loved each other but if they needed to, in their own words, 'take care of business' they could do so.

His career as a galactic guardian continued and eventually he took part in the Viltrumite War, destroying a space empire that had tyrannised the galaxy. For reasons during these events, he discovered the Tech Jacket had been shaving him without his knowledge and told it to stop, so he could grow a (terrible) beard. He also became particularly good friends with Allen the Alien, who at the end of the war became the leader of the Collation of Planets. They kept in touch.

Back to the usual galactic guardian work, an impossibly huge ship called the Colossal enter the solar system, along with a distress message from Lin. When he confronted it, he successfully defeated a cancerous entity within. Restored to functionality, the Colossal resumed its purpose- gathering entities and empowering them to face a mysterious threat. Zack was upgraded significantly, but in the process brainwashed into a drone warrior. He was used to repel the responses from various world governments and capture their soldiers for upgrade. When a nuclear weapon went off inside the Colossal Zack was freed and saved from dying in space by the forces of Nicholas Crowe, a rich businessman with his eyes on taking the Tech Jacket.

It turns out that Crowe had been attempting to make 'Tech Jackets' of his own with no biological component, but wished to obtain Zack's to complete them. While Zack was indisposed during the Colossal incident, his parents had sold the right to the jacket in a dubious deal- not valid as Zack was an adult at this point. Fighting on auto-pilot when he awoke amidst a botched vivisection, he was still convinced to assist Crowe in fighting off an invasion of Colossal troopers emerging from the same teleportation tech they had used to save him. Mostly this convincing came from Stanley, the sapient AI created by Crowe that was much more polite. He put up with them for now, as they were caring for an injured Lin who had crashed on Earth.

It was about this time some remaining Geldarians came to Earth to retrieve her. Some tensions arose when one of them was a lover of Lin, a woman named Xi, who Zack felt was closer than their arrangement allowed.

Discovering that the Colossal was created long ago by the Geldarians and was only a scout ship of a massive armada designed to battle an 'unknown foe', Zack followed Xi and Lin when they went to negotiate terms with the fleet. Suspecting it was a poor plan, he agreed to lead Crowe's army, the Tech Jacket Corps against the armada. He was proven right when the Colossals battled them, but ultimately it was Lin losing her temper at Zack and Xi's squabbling that saved the day. She put her foot down and also demanded the Colossal parlay with them- which it did, taking Lin from the other two. It explained the unknown foe was reality's immune system- designed to eliminate over-developed races. Taking part in the ensuing battle, Zack reconciled with Xi.

However, Zack became convinced that repeating the same method of attack repeatedly would never succeed- the Colossal's plan of weaponising a sun and amassing an army to protect the giant gun. He came up with the idea of combining the disparate forces there- the Tech Jacket Corps, the Colossals and the Geldarians into one unified super-soldier. While unplanned, it was completed by Stanley uploading his consciousness and merging with the Colossal.

Successfully ending the threat to all sapient life, Zack returned to Earth, and for about a year he worked as the U.N's official space protector, with the Tech Jacket Corps, called the Galactic Guardians. However, when the superhero Robot successfully surreptitiously conquered the world, they were rendered obsolete by his vast ostensibly benevolent organised army of machines. Zack wasn't too bothered and pretended he had retired with the Tech Jacket removed, while secretly moving his galactic guardian operation to a broader scale away from Earth.

Finally, when the time came to overthrow said world-ruling robot, Zack was a significant player.

Appearance:

His face, the original suit and the new suit.

A little on the short side, but very toned.

Abilities:

All of Zack's powers derive from his Tech Jacket, technology created by the Geldarian species to empower their weak bodies, making them formidable warriors. The relatively robust human body he possesses made the boost significantly higher, slowly increasing as the Tech Jacket grew from having him as a host.

The original suit did boost his physical capabilities (he throws spaceships larger than aircraft carriers), as well as granted him access to the hugely adaptive technology. The jacket seems to work out what Zack wants and creates it, sometimes inventing something entirely new right there. He usually uses energy ranged weapons, swords and whips. While he can fly faster than the speed of light, this is only when configured for long-distance travel. In routine flight he can make it around the world in a few minutes. It also has translation tech.

After the upgrade from the Colossal the suit is no longer a suit- it's merged with him entirely, and this changes its capabilities drastically. Now partially organic, it alters his own body as much as itself and has all the advantages of being a living thing as well as a machine. The suit's powers are improved over 1000% apparently.

All in all, he's one of the heavier hitters of his iteration of the Image Comics Universe. In the original suit his physical power is comparable to the weaker examples of Viltrumites (widely regarded as the most powerful species in the galaxy, pretty much thinly veiled Kryptonians), but no match for the stronger ones up close. In fact, whenever he's taking a beating, it's usually because he doesn't have the speed to keep a safe distance from a stronger foe. He makes up for this with versatility and utility.
